Audio and video transcription

Audio and video transcription is a job in Item Bank Health Check (IBHC) that automatically generates transcripts for multimedia Items that lack them.

This functionality provides a text-based equivalent of video or audio content, ensuring that content is fully accessible to learners who are hearing impaired, or who simply prefer a textual alternative.

By implementing these transcripts, you ensure your content aligns with global web accessibility standards, and maintains compliance with regional accessibility regulations at scale without manually transcribing each media element.

IBHC is a premium feature and may not be included in your product license. For more information, reach out to your Learnosity Customer Success Manager.

Note that this only addresses Items with missing data and will not overwrite existing transcripts.

When to use this job

The Audio and video transcription job is recommended when you need to:

  • Address legacy media: Quickly generate written equivalents for existing audio or video assets that were previously integrated without accessibility data.

  • Prepare for audits: Efficiently ready your Item banks for upcoming accessibility reviews or compliance certifications.

  • Enhance inclusive learning: Support diverse learner populations, including the hearing impaired and those in sound-sensitive environments or with specific sensory needs.

Running the job

  • Open the Learnosity Console and navigate to Item Bank Health Check.

  • Create a Collection or select an existing one with the Item bank you want to analyze.

  • Click on Create and select Audio and video transcription from the menu of available job types.

  • Initiate the process by clicking Run job.

The time required to complete the analysis depends on the volume of content and the cumulative length of the media assets within the Collection.

Reviewing results

Following the analysis of the Collection, a review space lists each Item where a transcript was generated. For each Item, it shows:

  • The audio or video element that was processed.

  • The AI-generated transcript.

  • An option to accept, edit, or reject the transcript before applying the changes.

We recommend reviewing results to ensure the AI suggestions match your organization’s specific terminology and pedagogical style. Once approved, you can finalize the updates to your Item bank by exporting the Collection.
